SEAT TOO LOW
Are you experiencing pain in the front of your knees? Your seat might be too low, and this will cause you to underextend your pedal stroke. When you have the right seat height, your knees should be slightly bent at the bottom of the pedal stroke, and not perpendicular to the ground.
ASSUME YOU NEED THE BEST GEAR
Contrary to popular belief, you do not need fancy clothes or clipped-in shoes, or a top-of-the-line bicycle to become a cyclist. Although having slick equipment can be a lot of fun, keep in mind that the more important thing is for you to be able to get out there and ride. You can worry about potential upgrades later on.
BAD BICYCLE FIT
The most important aspect of riding is having the perfect bike that fits you. If your bike fit is painful, you are not going to spend much time in the saddle – no matter how hyped you are to ride your new bike. To get the right fit, there are two elements you should prioritize: seat height and reach. POOR BIKE MAINTENANCE

TOO MUCH, TOO SOON
Trying to take on too much mileage before you are even ready is one of the biggest causes of injury when riding a bike. You should build up slowly, ease in, and make sure to give your body ample time to adjust to new distances.
NOT REFUELING ENOUGH
If you are only riding for, let’s say, an hour, you may not need to eat on the bike, but you definitely need to bring water, and may want a sports drink with electrolytes. If, however, you are planning to ride over an hour, make sure to bring a snack along. Start eating 45 minutes to an hour into your bike ride, and continue eating small amounts every 15 to 20 minutes. High carbohydrate gels, crackers, and gummy chews are easy to carry and made for cyclists. This is essential – not refueling can put your body into a deficit. You might even go into a hypoglycemic state! Irritability, tiredness, nausea, dizziness, and confusion will not be a strong way to finish a ride.
