Cycling 101: Dealing with Foot Blisters

If there is friction between your shoes and feet, you can suffer from foot blisters. Although not serious ailments, blisters can still be painful and uncomfortable – especially if you do not treat them the right way.


Cyclists, among others, know how much of a struggle it is to have foot blisters. We have gathered a few tips that can help a cyclist get rid of blisters:



The first thing you should consider is the shoes you are wearing. If you have a pair that gives you blisters, then you should stop wearing them immediately. Wearing uncomfortable shoes is a big NO; instead, buy shoes that fit comfortably. Wearing the right footwear can prevent you from getting blisters in the future. Breaking in a new pair of shoes might be uncomfortable at first, so be sure to take extra measures for comfort.



Just to be on the safe side, it is best to invest in a pair of moisture-wicking socks, such as ones sold at our bike shop. What can it do for you? It will cut back on blisters and other injuries. Not only that, but moisture-wicking socks also absorb sweat from your feet.



While putting on bandages can reduce friction and protect your existing blister from getting irritated, it is still important to apply them the right way if you want your blister to heal. Chafing stick, on the other hand, promotes healing, protects blisters from dirt, debris, and friction, and it also allows the blister to breathe. Remember, blisters can become infected. Applying the right remedies, such as chafing sticks, will yield a great result.



Vitamin E is good for the skin because it has excellent skin repairing properties, heals quickly, and prevents scarring. Applying vitamin E oil to your blistered feet is an amazing remedy. Castor oil is also one great toenail fungus remedy and you can also treat your blister by applying castor oil before going to bed at night. For faster results, you may also mix it with apple cider vinegar.



Massaging your blistered feet with ointment helps prevent you from infection. You may apply aloe vera gel or petroleum jelly to the affected area is directed and you may do so before putting on your socks or shoes. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before touching the blister. Aloe vera is an anti-inflammatory so it helps reduce the swelling and redness which cause the pain.


So, if you are a cyclist and you have blisters, don’t worry – you can get rid of them within minutes!
